New high-res Moon maps from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter:

Past few days, I've realized my current pencil and paper aren't heavy-duty enough for the dynamic kind of work I want to be able to do. Gotta hit the art supply store over the weekend and look into upgrading my materials.

Imagine the impact blast!

Yeah, and I think it's the south pole of the Moon that's actually like one huge crater or something, one of the largest impact sites known in the solar system actually.

Do you know what brand of paper you use? I'm gonna be looking at some of this fancy French "Arches" 140 lb stuff.

Your looking at a fortune in material costs there, Ben. Unless your planning for every page to be a display piece, or are selling the originals for a healthy chunk-o-change, I'd just stick with Strathmore vellum bristol. It does the job, and it'd be hard to tell the difference on the screen anyway.

Wow! I never knew the moon was so colorful. Looks like a kitchen sponge with a mold infestation. ;)

I was afraid of that too, vw, which is why I didn't look into those expensive types of paper at first (also I didn't know I wouldn't like the feel of the Bristol). But my local art store has the Arches I want in 25-packs of 22"x30" sheets for just over $100; I can get 3 A* pages out of each sheet (the actual area that ends up fitting into each page you see on the web is 16"x6.75") (EDIT: Oh wait actually 4 pages, yay math!), so that's 75 (EDIT: 100) pages for $100 ($103.95 + tax), or not much more than $1/page, which doesn't seem *all* that bad. I *am* planning to make the original of each page available for $100 through my main site; of course I don't know how many I'll be able to sell, and I think I still gotta improve the quality and consistency.

Ha ha, re moon, last week I found an old apple at the back of my fridge that looked just like that. It was good too!
As for my paper, it's The Great Canadian Sketchbook, 50 pages, 110 lbs, costs something like $12.95 or so.

Dang that is pretty great, all right!

I'd be scared of an apple with blue in it =o
